Superposition provides cutting-edge motion control services for the Swiss and European film industry. It is an offshoot of award-winning creative robotics studio AATB GmbH, founded in 2018 by Andrea Anner and Thibault Brevet.
With extensive knowledge and expertise in motion control systems, software programming, electronics and mechanical engineering, Superposition is able to provide highly specialized solutions to unique Motion Control and Visual Engineering problems.
We have gained international recognition through our robotic artworks, and built up a strong technical expertise in customizing robotics and automation platforms for creative applications.
Preproduction
We can get involved in projects at an early stage if special workflows and techniques are required. Our ability to develop bespoke software and hardware often provides unique solutions to make projects happen.
Previz
Complex projects and strict timelines profit of clearing up any misunderstanding and preparing each shots as best as possible ahead of the shooting day. Previz helps all stakeholders to plan better ahead all details and allow to save precious time on set.
Scouting and 3D Scanning
Scouting locations gives us the opportunity to build 3D scans of the environments. We can then provide better previz and accurate camera and robot setups for each shots.
Prelight
On a Prelight day, we install our system, can adjust the movements and rehearse shots. This is a great way to save up time on the shooting day.
Jumbo
The largest motion control robot is Switzerland with a reach of 2.5m covering a 5m circle, and a payload of 20kg able to lift the heaviest camera rigs. It is ideal for large moves thanks to its unmatched accessible volume, and is very rigid and fast for detailed macro work or high speed shots. It is easily movable thanks to its Europalette-sized base, and it weighs less than 750kg so most light truck are able to move it around Switzerland or Europe. It must be powered on a 3-phase electrical supply.
Jumbolino
For any shots requiring lightweight and flexible rigs, these are perfect thanks to their unbeatable weight of only 30kg and single-phase supplies. They can be mounted in unimaginable configurations, rigged upside-down to custom truss structures, inside and outside of cars drifting around, or easily moved around the countryside, forests or mountains. Their reach is of 1.3m, covering a 2.6m circle and a payload of 10kg. Due to their light and compact builds, they are less rigid and fast than Jumbo, so not adapted for macro and high-speed shots, but excel for anything short-focal and out-of-the-ordinary.
Multiple Robots
Our system can synchronize multiple robots. It is possible to have a robot for camera and one of many others for model moving.
On Location
Our Jumbolino system is perfect for location work. It can easily be brought up flights of stairs by hand, or run from a small diesel generator if shooting outdoor.
FIZ
Our system can control focus, iris and zoom lens motors, if needing sharp focus during product shots or repeat zoom pulls during multipass shots for example. We can interface and control Arri cforce and Tilta Nucleus-M motors.
Highspeed
Our Jumbo system is capable of very high accelerations, this allows to create unique shots with high-speed cameras such as Phantom or Ember up to 1000fps. We own and operate a Freefly Ember S5K high-speed camera for a very light and cost-efficient rig without dedicated operator, and can provide a Phantom camera if preferred.
Track only
Our track system can be used standalone and is great for multipass shots that do not need camera movements besides simple tracking. This is a cost-efficient way to achieve motion control shots without the costs of a full robotic system.
Jumbolino on Track
Our light motion control system can be mounted on our track system, greatly extending its reach, this allows complex and long tracking shots while retaining all motion control capabilities for more flexibility.
Jumbolino on Car
We can grip our Jumbolino system on cars that can move on their own power, not requiring a low-loader, this makes for exciting new shots!
Model Moving
Our robots can also be used for to move props. This allows to create practical SFX shots that would be difficult to achieve with classic equipment.
Multipass
Our robotic systems are perfect for multipass shots, we can provide frame and pixel accurate shots.
Sync Bloop
Multipass shots are easily synchronized with a visual or audio marker, this allows DITs on set to quickly provide frame-accurate previews, and straightforward workflows for post-productions.
Virtual Production
Our systems can stream camera position via network to virtual production systems like Unreal or Unity.
Turntable
We provide a motorized turntable that can be synchronized to our robotic systems. This allows precise movements and makes possible multipass shots with it.
DMX
Our system can control DMX lights for synchronized light effects.
Trigger Box
Our robotic system can trigger external devices for synchronized SFX.
Audio Cue
We can play synchronized audio for cues and if requiring precise sequences of actions to direct actors on music for example.
